Brazil legend Pele has voiced his frustration with their style of play in current years and feels they no longer play attractive football.
Pele has hit out at Brazil coach Dunga for his reluctance to field creative players and believes the Selecao now come behind countries such as Argentina and Chile when it comes to playing lovely football.
Brazil had been hammered 7-1 by Germany inside the semi-finals of your 2014 Planet Cup, before crashing out with the Copa America within the quarter-finals in the hands of Paraguay a year later and Pele feels recent benefits present proof they no longer set the benchmark.
“I am sad just speaking about it. I cried watching that game [the 7-1 loss to Germany] and not only because of the score. I cried simply because I usually do not know what happened for the joy of Brazilian football,” Pele told ESPN.
“Maybe this summer time in the Olympics and Copa America, we can remind the world of how Brazil plays soccer, nevertheless it won’t be uncomplicated. I fear we’ve got lost our way.
“There is no flair. Other South American nations like Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador now play additional attractive soccer than Brazil and also you see what takes place within the last two Copa Americas. We lose to Paraguay on penalties.
“Myself, Gerson, Rivelino, and Tostao have been all No. 10s and yet [then coach Mario] Zagallo wanted us all around the field at the identical time so he created a formation that could accommodate us. Then in Japan [at the 2002 Planet Cup], we had Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo who all had fantastic flair and we won once more.
“But these days we have a coach who does not care about individual expression. Neymar can’t do it alone. You saw what occurred in the World Cup when he could not play against Germany.”
