Spain international Diego Costa revealed he had the illusion of returning to Atletico Madrid in recent months.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa conceded he had “hope” of returning to Atletico Madrid during the transfer window but revealed the deal fell through as a consequence of “minor details”.
Costa was heavily linked with a return towards the Vicente Calderon within the off-season, where he won the LaLiga title below Diego Simeone in 2013-14 just before joining Chelsea inside a ￡32million deal.
Although the choice was eventually made to remain at Stamford Bridge, Costa revealed he was deeply contemplating the switch back to Spanish football.
“The truth is that I had hope of returning [to Atletico],” the Spain international told Movistar Plus ahead with the side’s friendly with Belgium.
“I will not lie, due to the fact absolutely everyone knows what I am going by means of with the language, some items.
“There was generally the possibility to return but it couldn’t be on account of a number of minor details.
“But I cannot complain because the individuals there [at Chelsea] love me, and also the fans want me and respect me.”
Costa added: “I will generally thank the persons of Atleti, Cholo [Simeone] especially for the reason that he often had self-confidence in me.
“But I am now at Chelsea, I am very good, the league has started and now we’ve got to assume in that.
“I hope Atleti do too as last season and they could win some trophies.”
